Culminating Activity

Objectives:

  • Create a final presentation that represents all cumulative, individual, and group work accomplished during the race.

As you know, the race will last approximately 14 days. During this time period your class has the opportunity to participate the entire time or for just a few days. The culminating activity is designed for you to work in groups, select activities of your choice, and work as a group as if you were a piece of a jigsaw puzzle containing information. How much time the culminating activity takes and what the actual structure will look like will be determined by your teacher and your class. The culminating activity is your collective work presented as a group so everyone in the class understands each piece of the puzzle. The jigsaw method, as it's called, is useful when a lot of material has to be covered in a short period of time. It is also a great way for each group to become content experts and share what they have learned with others. How you present your part of the puzzle is up to you. You will need to coordinate all class activities with your teacher and the other groups in your class.  Keep in mind you are not limited to the four walls of your classroom.  Other classes within the school can participate as well. If you have the resources and your teacher is willing, perhaps your class can work with another school in another part of the world. Consider adding activities and information that is not listed on the Student Activity page. In addition, when the race is over and you have time, continue your activities and research on leatherback turtles.

Other forms of evaluation will be determined by your teacher.

Example:

Evaluation Rubric:  Teacher designed or teacher and student designed rubric targeting specific content areas you are currently covering in class or will be covering in the future.
